This is Ponie the Unicorn, gender undecided as of yet.

I think he’s a boy, despite his uber-girly hairdo and colour, but seeing as he’s a gift for my twin 4-yr old nieces, I’m willing to let them make the call on Ponie’s ultimate fate re: restrooms in the Mall….

I did, fleetingly, think of sticking a Pez dispenser up his butt, but I don’t know if Lilly and Bella would get the (rather cynical) joke about Candy-Cr@pping Unicorns.
Plus, as I was making him, his sweet character started emerging, and it seemed a shame to make a joke out of such an adorable boy.

This is him before he went to the washer/dryer - so I’m hoping the process doesn’t make him too wonky looking at the other end.

Made with soft, luscious Merino wool, crocheted very tight and washed to within an inch of its life, to make it shrink a little.

Hair is made from some crazy eyelash yarn that I picked up at a thrift store or yard sale somewhere.

Sadly, because I keep forgetting to document my purchases, I have no idea what it is - other than fantastic - so if anyone recognises it, please do let me know what I have here…..

Anyway, hope you like him as much as I do!

I love him! :meow: I'm just revisiting and wondering if he survived the wash, how he looked afterwards and what his(or her!) name is now...?

Thank you!

I did wash him - just the once - and gave him over to the tender mercies of my twin 4 year old nieces.....

I have not heard anything since. Which could be bad. Or good....

What a great plushie! ^^

I do recognize the plushie (my mother buys many amigurumi patterns. I swear she has every single one out there on the internet. It's a HUGE collection and I'm not exaggerating.) Would you like me to try to find the pattern?

I'd love you to, thank you!

There's nothing new under the sun, so I'm sure that there's a pattern out there that completely describes what I did - so if I've shamelessly lifted someone else's pattern verbatim, I'm sorry!

Oh, you didn't use a pattern or reference it in anyway while making your amigurumi?

If that's so, then why are you interested in finding a pattern to give credit to?

I think we're talking at cross-purposes here ;-)

I was wondering about the parentage of the yarn I used - especially the mad purple/pink eyelash stuff for the mane and tail. I'd love to know what the yarn is called, so I can buy more of it!

Sadly, I'm not very good at keeping records of where and when I get my yarns, and as I often get them from thrift stores and yard sales, they frequently have no labels on them - hence the difficulty in knowing the manufacturer...

I would never knowingly use someone else's pattern for anything, and not credit them.

Ah hehe.

Okay, I thought you just couldn't remember the pattern you got this from and who you could credit to.

This makes a lot more sense.

I'm sorry for the confusion I've caused the both of us. :(

LOL, no probs! ;-)

Though, in all seriousness, I would never, ever make something from someone else's pattern and pretend that its mine. I've had some trouble myself with plagarism, so I would never knowingly subject someone else to it

Though, I guess we all have the problem that all toys/amigrumi are basically just spheres/ellipses/cylinders made of yarn and sewn together in various ways....
I guess there's an Ur-Originator out there somewhere in history, but darned if I know who it is or when they first did it.... :-)

AH okay, I'm really sorry.

I hope you know that I wasn't accusing you of copyright or plagiarism. That is definitely not what I was trying to accomplish and I'm sorry if I sounded that way.

I thought you meant that you had followed a pattern but then had lost it when you were finished with the plushie and wanted to know if anyone knew which pattern you had worked from.

Which is my bad, since I read about this when it was late at night. ^^;

But I'm glad we cleared this up. :)
